EMERCOM of Russia identified the priorities of international cooperation for the near future

The EMERCOM of Russia, chaired by First Deputy Minister Alexander Chupriyan, summed up the results of international cooperation over the past year and identified priority areas for development.

In 2020, the department carried out more than 40 humanitarian missions, most of which were associated with assistance in the context of the spread of coronavirus infection. Thus, the Russian Emergencies Ministry delivered humanitarian medical supplies to 9 countries in Asia and Africa: China, Congo, the Central African Republic, Zimbabwe, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Cape Verde, the Republic of Angola and Afghanistan. In addition, Russian doctors were sent to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan by the Russian Emergencies Ministry aviation to provide assistance in the fight against infection.

In the context of the spread of COVID-19, the special aviation department of the Ministry organized the evacuation of Russians from Japan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

In 2020, the department implemented a joint project with the World Health Organization, within the framework of which assistance was provided to Djibouti, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Palestine. Medical kits sent to these countries provided treatment for more than 260 thousand patients, more than 1.5 thousand surgeries were done, and two field anti-cholera centers were equipped in Djibouti.

In addition, food aid was provided to a number of countries. This direction of humanitarian response will continue this year.

EMERCOM of Russia is also actively involved in the training of foreign colleagues. During the year, more than 100 specialists from Serbia and Armenia studied at Ministry's universities. At present, almost 500 specialists from 15 countries of the near and far abroad are undergoing training in educational institutions of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

EMERCOM of Russia continues to develop humanitarian and training centers. For example, in 2020, the Russian-Nicaraguan Center for Training Rescuers, Civil Defense and Humanitarian Demining Specialists was re-equipped with a Mi-8 fire-fighting helicopter and 15 off-road vehicles.

This year, the forces of the Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center are planning to help the countries of the Balkan Region, affected by earthquakes in 2020, in assessing the sustainability of social facilities.

Also, certification of the Far Eastern Regional Search and Rescue Unit of the EMERCOM of Russia according to the INSARAG methodology and a number of international events are to be held.
