The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations held a working meeting with the delegation of the State of Libya

On November 14, a working meeting between Secretary of State and Deputy Minister Alexey Serko and Security Advisor to the Government of National Unity of the State of Libya Ibrahim Bushanaf took place at the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

During the bilateral meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation in the field of protecting the population and territories from natural and man-made emergencies.

Alexey Serko noted that in the context of modern crises and threats, the development of international cooperation in the field of combating disasters is especially important. Today Russia has one of the most professionally trained fire and rescue services that are in demand abroad. Specialists of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have the most modern technology and equipment to conduct humanitarian operations anywhere in the world.

In turn, Ibrahim Bushanaf thanked Russian rescuers for the assistance provided to the people in Libya during the flood in September of this year. The disaster claimed the lives of a large number of people and caused significant damage to infrastructure. Then rescuers of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations were sent to the disaster zone with the necessary equipment, and humanitarian aid was also delivered to the affected population.

Such events once again prove the need to fully strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation in the field of combating emergency situations, including through the creation of existing humanitarian response mechanisms and training of firefighters and rescuers.

At the meeting, it was noted that a promising area of international cooperation is the training of Libyan specialists in universities of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, on the basis of which a powerful material and technical base has been formed.

The Russian side also expressed its readiness to provide methodological assistance to Libyan colleagues in the development and promotion of a system for forecasting and warning of emergency situations using Earth remote sensing technologies. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations pays great attention to this area, since timely recognition of a potentially dangerous situation will help minimize human and natural losses.

At the end of the working meeting, representatives of the Libyan delegation were invited to visit the International Salon “Integrated Security” in Moscow in 2024. At the event, you will be able to get acquainted with the work of Russian firefighters and rescuers and see the live application of Russian rescue technologies.

At the bilateral meeting, foreign guests visited the National Crisis Management Center.
