Russian Emergency Situations Ministry develops cooperation with Cuba

The delegation of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations holds working meetings with the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the fire department and the national headquarters of civil defense of Cuba.
The Russian side led by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia Valentina Antropova visited the Regional Russian-Cuban Center for Training Fire and Rescue Specialists in Havana, where working meetings were held with the heads of Cuban departments.
Last December, Russian rescuers handed over 21 units of specialized fire and rescue equipment to Havana. The introduction of modern rescue equipment into the arsenal of the unit of foreign colleagues allows us to effectively respond to threats and prevent them. In addition, over the past five years, by decision of the President and Government of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations delivered more than 22 thousand tons of food, medicine and medical products to Cuba. This year, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, taking into account the requests of the Cuban side, began preparing a new project of humanitarian assistance to a foreign state involving the potential of the ICDO. In particular, the issue of purchasing and supplying new specialized fire and rescue equipment and machinery is being resolved.
Bilateral cooperation has also been established in the training of specialists, exchange of experience and best practices in fire and rescue business. Thus, over 200 Cubans have already been trained at universities of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, and foreign colleagues are continuing their training this year.
“It is necessary to continue our work on the development of the Regional Russian-Cuban Center for the Training of Fire and Rescue Specialists. It makes a significant contribution to increasing the readiness of Cuba and the entire Latin American region for disasters and disasters,” noted the Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
This July the center will celebrate its tenth anniversary. During its work, more than 130 specialists from 17 countries were trained at its base. This year, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations will also organize specialized training courses at the Havana Center.
One of the important areas of international activity of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations is interaction in the field of monitoring and forecasting emergency situations, as well as improving information exchange between control centers in crisis situations. In these matters, the Russian department is ready to provide support to the National Civil Defense Headquarters of Cuba.
The parties expressed a joint opinion on the broad prospects for further joint work. Rescue services will continue to consistently develop interaction, including the exchange of useful practices and cooperation in the educational sphere. The Cuban side will consider the possibility of visiting the International Salon “Integrated Security - 2024”. The event will traditionally take place in late May–early June this year in the Moscow Region.
